About a year ago, I reviewed my published books. As with most authors, they improved with each one I wrote. The first, Free to Think, required an overwhelming amount of work—maybe one day. But Ireentje… Now, that book was doable.
So, I began the rewrite by learning about the requirements for a children’s chapter book: word count, font size, and tone. There were many changes needed, so the work began in earnest.
But, as often happens, life interrupted. Mom moved in, meaning her home had to be emptied and sold. Six months gone. I had emergency surgery. Another two months gone. Etc.
Once I could work again, I sent what I had to beta readers. One gave feedback (so far), which meant more changes. In the end, I split the book into four—a series. Now, I have a cover designer hard at work, and I’m waiting for the other beta readers’ feedback.
My goal is to publish in late February. But life might intervene!
