The other day, I was reminiscing with my mother, who is staying with me while we are self-isolating during this pandemic. She read through the first draft of my second middle-grade chapter book, which is currently called “Ireentje Makes Waves.” The title is a work in progress.
Anyway, we were remembering when my dad took my brother and me on vacation while Mom was pregnant with my sister. We drove up a mountain in Colorado. It grew icy and the trailer slid off the side of the road. Dad made my brother and I get out of the car, he manoeuvred the trailer back onto the road, and we all survived. What I had not expected was that Mom found this chapter very hard to read. It still makes her anxious to this day!
Realistic writing? Or just a Mom’s memories? When the book is published, you can decide for yourself.
Meanwhile, if you are feeling anxious during this pandemic, especially because you can’t get the cleaning supplies you’d like, here’s a video about an easy substitution that is more effective than Clorox/disinfectant wipes.
